Dorchester Primary School required a two-phase build comprising of a school extension in phase one and demolition of the existing building entrance and offices for construction of a sports hall in phase two.
The school is located in a heavily populated residential area and was required to stay open throughout the build. The local community were consulted with and kept informed about any potential disruption at all stages of the process. The build was also used to educate the children with a viewing area installed at a safe distance from the site and trade operators speaking at assemblies.

Phase 1 of the extension provided the school with 10 new classrooms, new administration facilities, kitchen facilities, library, dance hall & ICT room. This meant that the school continue operating as normal after the demolition of the old offices and front entrance which were replaced with a sports hall in phase two.
Modular roof lighting was incorporated as part of the natural ventilation strategy and to maximise natural daylighting. A sloped ceiling was incorporated in the library and ICT room to maximise the space, light and available fresh air.

As a result of our thermal modelling exercise we introduced the use of phase change therma-cool tiles to ceilings in classrooms. Our factory controlled precision manufacturing method ensured the tightest tolerances were achieved to deliver exceptional building performance. This enabled us to minimise waste and achieve the operational cost benefits to meet the BREEAM target.
